About Hpi Rc – Faq

Robert asks…

A good HPI RC Electric car for drifting?

I am looking for a fast, durable HPI/Tamiya electric rc car, for under 200. On-road preferred.

RC Staff Member Answers:

If you want an rc drift car under 200$, you can either get an hpi e10 drift or associated tc4, but if you want an electric durable car that will last long, the tamiya tt01 is for you :)

Nancy asks…

is it a good idea to buy a hpi rc car online or through a shop?

it seems alot cheaper to buy online than buying a rc car from a shop. the shop will cost me $500. if i buy online it will cost me around $300. I AM NOT GOING TO BUY FROM EBAY but there are some rc website that will ship me the car. is it a good idea to buy online or best to just buy from a shop?

It really doesn’t matter honestly, most small hobby shops tend to jack up prices because it’s not exactly a booming business these days. Other cases involve whether the car is assembled or you have to do it yourself, a shop near my house will assemble your R/C car for you but it costs a bit more.

Really, you should be more concerned with the brand of your R/C car and not where you buy it from, I recommend Tamiya. I have a gas-powered Lancia HF from Tamiya and it’s one of the best R/C’s I’ve ever had.

Ruth asks…

whats better for HPI RC Drift: Electric vs Nitro?

I’m thinking about buying a HPI RC drift car but I want to know which one is better to get. Please can someone tell me the difference, price, quality, etc. But especially which one is better to get for drifting.

Electric is better to drift with, and most drifters are electric. The ESC (electronic speed controller) is more precise than a nitro motor, meaning you can hold a constant speed better than a nitro. I use a Traxxas Nitro 4 Tec as a drifter and love it. Only because I am more of a Nitro RC fan than electric. I had to do a lot of mods to make it a worthy drifter but it’s amazing. So if you want a little extra work, go with the nitro. If you want something you can just plug and play, go with the electric. Both are fun. I just like the realism and sound of the nitro motor. The HPI drift series are not that expensive and will run you a couple hundred bucks. The Flux is about $319. And the nitro RS4′s are around $350+. Check out www.towerhobbies.com and search HPI. The home page has coupon codes for a few extra $$$’s off the price. And these cars have millions of upgrade parts so you can always make the car better if you don’t like it stock. Tamiya makes some good drifters too. Basically, you can make any on road RC into a drifter with some slick tires. 4WD is a plus as well. Most on roads are 4WD anyways. Hope this helps. You can also check out some videos on YouTube before you make a purchase. That will give you an idea of how a specific RC runs.
