About R C Boats Gas – Faq

Charles asks…
Can you turn a ProBoat R/C Gas boat into an electric R/C boat?
Not sure if it is easy or even possible but if you could let me know what i have to do or where i can find something that shows me how that would be great.

Why would you want to convert to electric? Being model gas powered, you’re the best it can be and the lightest. While it can be converted to electric, you’ll gain more than twice the weight of the gas equipment. Your actual run time will drastically drop to 5-15 minutes. Speed drops dramatically too. If you do find a way to keep the speed up, they’ll drain the batteries very quickly. My dad and I use to hand build our boats and we even custom built a “Surface Run Only” submarine that measured 64″ LOA. Weight with all ballast, electrical equipment and electric drives was 58 pounds, and had a top speed of 8 mph. Doesn’t sound like much, but it was impressive to watch run on the lake and to see fight in the mock “War” battles with the boats and ships out here.
We designed all of our drives for our models. Every one is unique and has to be designed to the vessel. You’ll need an idea of what you want to accomplish in speed, run time, weight and it has to fit the space available. Since you’re going the opposite way, heat isn’t a factor. If you plan on long run times, you’ll really want a water cooling system for the motor(s). Electric motors develop lots of heat on the windings and communicators, BAD for electric motors. Cooling jackets have to be custom made for each motor.
I don’t know where you’ll find a web site with all of the info for a conversion. Most are hit and miss when doing what you’re doing. Some other considerations are balance and distribution of weight.
Good luck with the conversion. I’d just leave it alone and enjoy the vessel in gas run.

Thomas asks…
Do gas-powered boat laws apply to radio controled boats?
State is Virginia. Certain bodies of water don’t allow gas powered watercraft. It would seem that this would apply to r/c boats with nitro or 2-cycle fuel motors but I cant find anything specifically addressing it.

George asks…
I want to purchase a Miss Budweiser R.C. Boat.?
Looking for a new Miss budweiser R.C. hydroplane boat with gas nitro motor and I want it to be authentic. Were any authorized by Anheuser Busch? Also what is the difference in size between the 1/8 scale and the 1/12 scale? What was the last year they were produced and by whom?
RC Staff Member Answers:
I do not know if any were specifically authorized, that were RC models.
MOST “gas-nitro” are built from kits and then finished with the appropriate logos, etc.
1/8 is about 20% larger that 1/12
