Laura asks…

What do I use to make a custom Traxxas R/C Car body?

I would like to make my own body for my Traxxas slash. But I have n idea what materials to use to but on the clear body. Help me out?

RC Staff Member Answers:

You need the clear body, Pactra paint, masking take, and a body reamer and lexan scissors.

Ken asks…

My Traxxas Stampede r/c car runs below par and is incredibly slow and screeches, how do i fix it?

whenever i start my r/c car and try to run it, it will make a screeching noise and will not cease. The car also will move at a very slow rate, and is sometimes unresponsive to my controller.
Ok, so I want to try to tighten the slipper clutch, but how do I do that?

RC Staff Member Answers:

It could be several things that are causing problems. Here are a few possibilities:

The screeching could be caused by the slipper clutch the disk might be dirty, worn out or adjusted too loose. Try adjusting it 1st & if that doesn’t work you can take it apart & clean the disk by scraping it gently with a razor blade until the shiny appearance is gone.

It could also be a radio problem with interference being caused by mounting the receiver too close to another electrical part or routing the antenna too close as well. Your battery might also be discharging or shorted & not producing the proper voltage to run the vehicle.

There could also be something binding the gears, check to make sure a piece of gravel or anything hasn’t gotten caught in the drive-line anywhere like between the pinion & spur gear or dogbones/drive axles.

The brushes on your motor might be worn down too low & causing insufficient contact with the commutator causing it to run slowly if at all as well as arching & radio glitches. You can buy replacement brushes for your motor at the rc hobby shops.

You tighten the slipper clutch by removing the cap on the gear box cover & accessing the nut that compresses the spring. You then tighten the nut by holding one of the wheels & turning the nut to the right. Your car should have came with a wrench or you can use an appropriate socket from a socket set.

John asks…

What Traxxas R/C car is right for me?

Hi, I have a couple questions regarding Traxxas R/C cars. I currently have a Team Associated RC18MT but want something faster and I am considering a Traxxas vehicle due to the fact that almost (or all) of their models are waterproof.

Anyways, my friend is getting a Traxxas Bandit Extreme soon and I wanted to be a little bit faster than him. (Bandit hits 35mph stock) So the cars I was looking at are the Bandit VXL and the Rustler VXL, maybe even the Stampede VXL.

Here’s what I want out of the cars:
I would like to mainly drive it on the road, (e.g. Drag race my friend’s cars) drive it in some sand/mud, when winter comes I’ll be driving in snow all the time and there are some rocks nearby my house so I’ll be driving there too.

Leave me what model you think would suit me best below and why. All answers are greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

If its going to spend 90+% of its time onroad, then i would say get the bandit VXL. BE WARNED- they are capable of going “too fast”, and if you’re not very experienced, be VERY careful driving it, or you will get to know your local hobby shop people a little too well. I would also maybe think about the 1/16 Revo vxl, as it would SMOKE your buddies buggy and are incredibly fun and offer big scale performance in a small package, just a suggestion though.
