help with nitro rc fuel oil mixing?
i just started to get into nitro rc cars and i ordered 33% nitro fuel and got it, but just found out that it is hard on your engine and will wear it out faster with higher nitro. i do not want the engine to wear out to fast so i got some castrol gtx motor oil to mix with the fuel to lower the nitro down to around 20% . what i would like to know is can you use motor oil in mixing with nitro fuel to lower the nitro % down and how much of the motor oil do i add to a 32 oz or 1 quart of traxxas fuel. thank you for your help.

DO NOT, UNDER ANY CONDITIONS USE REGULAR MOTOR OIL for this. The oils used are in model engines are ENTIRELY different from that used in a car.
High percentage Nitro fuels are normally used for racing, not regular running.
You have 1 qt 33% nitro. Buy 1 qt of 0% nitro. Mix the 2 together. You will now have 2 qts of aproximately 16% nitro which should be sufficient for regular running.
NOTE:
I use 30% nitro in my aircraft engines, because I live at 8000 feet altitude and need the additional “power” just to bring the performance up to near sea-level performance.
I have engines over 15 years old that are still running fine.
The main concern is NOT to run the engine too lean, which will cause overheating and engine damage.
I always find peak RPM and then open 2 to 5 “clicks” richer, depending on engine/prop/plane to avoid running lean while flying.

Nitro Rc Fuel Question Need Help
I have o-donnel 20% fuel, Is it ok if i switched to traxxas 20% top fuel for my hpi evo? Thanks
RC Staff Member Answers:
Switching fuel especially of the same nitro percentage should be fine.
I have used both fuels and if I remember correctly, the traxxas fuel runs a bit richer then o-donnel. If you put a gallon or less then switching shouldn’t as big a deal as an engine with 3 gallons through it. I personally am a fan of the o-donnel fuel and have been using it with good results. Just try a gallon out and see if your engine runs good, just remember to tweak your high speed needle and maybe your low speed. Shouldn’t harm your engine at all.
*If you just have a gallon of traxxas fuel you want to use then go back to the o-donnel then you have nothing to worry about, I have put different fuels in mine when I have run out.
